Maximilian Virgili

Maximilian Virgili is a self-taught photographer based in Berlin.

Born in Bavaria, in a village surrounded by forests, he grew up close to nature, between skateboarding, sports, and long days spent outdoors. He also divided his childhood between Germany and Italy, his father's country of origin. His father's paintings, influenced by the legacy of Van Gogh and the Impressionists, awakened in him from a very young age a particular attention to color, light, and atmosphere.

His photographic work, imbued with a taste for subtly absurd situations, vibrant colors and textures, oscillates between documentary gaze and pictorial sensitivity.

He is the author of two books: Out of Office (2022), a self-published book compiling travel photographs, and Umarèl (New Dimension, London, 2025), dedicated to Berlin construction sites.

His images have been published in numerous international magazines and he collaborates with clients such as Belmond, Airbnb, MSGM, Zeit Magazine, Monocle, FT HTSI and Bloomberg Businessweek.

The pleasure of color is at the heart of the photography of Maximilian Virgili, a Berlin-based photographer. Blur, close-up, flash: his images become pictorial and almost abstract, and their sunny palette warms the eyes.
